I have had Oblivion for a while but am waiting to upgrade before I really play it ...

Besides the mods that improve distant textures, the big one for me is the one that stops enemies from leveling up with your charachter. The way it is now, the skill level of all enemies is tied to your charachter's skill level. So a plain old giant rat which you can kill with two swings of your sword in the first level, will be ten times more difficult to kill when your charachter is at a much higher level ... This is not a feature I like. It reminds me of rubberband AI in racing games, where if you fall too far behind, the AI racers will magically slow down, and if you get too far ahead they will magically catch up ... If there is a some bad ass troll in Oblivion and I start a fight with him before I'm strong enough, then I damn well want him to dice me into ribbons, rather than have him artifcially weakened to the point that we're an even match, etc etc.

Oblivion experts out there - if I have explained the above feature improperly, please feel free to correct me. It is based on my admittedly limited understanding of how it works ...

EDIT: nevermind. Looks like I'm just describing the OOO mod that has already been mentioned above ...

you can't go wrong with the Official mods *although I personally wouldn't pay for them, they should of been free in the first place* the Mount Armor ones are incredible and don't drastically change the game.

There is something floating around online for Oblivion called Knights of the Round. It is apparently Every Mod to date *and latest builds* for Oblivion. I will also say since they are mods you can legally download them offline through torrents or there respective sites *but if you want to get picky Bethesda charges for there Mods* I still qualify it as being legall to Download it. But I won't link anything in here and risk WSGF possible trouble. if you want info then PM me

I searched for a mod which replaces the far distant textures and what I have found is this:

Have fun with it.

Hi,

I bought Oblivion quite some time ago and decided to stop playing this wonderful game. Not because I did not like it but to wait for adaequate hardware to REALLY get immersed into this great game. And, well, with a Dell 30", a Core Duo @ 3 Ghz and - most important - a 8800 GTX this is just how the game is supposed to run :-)

I did not post here to boast with my hardware but for a completely different reason . I maxxed the game`s graphics to really impressive extremes. I shall post a few screenshots later on. If somebody REALLY wants to tune up oblivion have a look here, it is absolutely amazing what people seem to be doing in their spare time! And for free! All you need is a good internet connection as you will be downloading 100`s of MB`s)

http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/totoworld

I followed the instructions given for my videocard (768 MB RAM) step for step and now enjoy a completely overhauled Oblivion. In fact, the graphic looks so good I catch myself just sitting around and enjoying my surroundings. This looks almost real! This is IT!

Recommended additional mods:

BT Mod 2.20 (of course)
Oscuro`s Oblivion Overhaul (v. 1.31, I started a new game and don`t regret it)
Natural environments (by Max Tael)
TamrielVWD 0.5 by Rain_NZ (very impressive, almost all buildings can be seen from ANY distance!)
Oblivion Polygon Overhaul (as mentioned in TOTO page)
Oblivion Low Polygon Grass (for slower PCs)

plus a few others...

gogo

P.S.: It is quite unbelievable what you can do to a 8800 GTX. Even in 2560x1600, with all the enhancements mentioned above, all settings set to max, HDR (but no AA, I just don`t need it) etc I enjoy framerates from 35 min to 75 max - in the open (cities, forests, the card does not care...)

AMAZING.

Anyway some people think that because i say "Oblivion is unplayable without addons" They think that Im saying the game sucks as default.

All i mean is that given the option to mod your interface and stuff like the graphics, theres no point in playing it unmodded as it will be 2000x better with mods that DO NOT CHANGE THE GAMEPLAY.

Same thing goes for WoW, I dont know anyone that does not use addons, I my self use anywhere from 20-50 addons in WoW at any time, And i use atleast 10 differnt mods for Oblivion when i play.

I like RPGs, but I disliked a lot of the stuff in Oblivion, such as the leveling system and the spell system. Maybe some day when I have a better, working gaming system, I'll try it out with some of those mods...

What does OOO do? I think I've heard of it a couple of times.

Well, OOO introduces a heap of new items, new enemy behaviour and eventually brings an end to levelling. And a lot more...
