I'm looking at Sunday absolute earliest I can get you any sort of result from my experimenting. I was hoping that it was gonna be tomorrow, but I've just been informed by family that I'm expected to attend a get together on Saturday. *sigh*

Does Crysis let you Alt-Tab back to the desktop? That might be a way to prevent those hard resets. This may be mumbo jumbo but I have found that some programs that will not let me Alt-Tab at first will let me do so if I have some other application running. Like Notepad.

If I force the res to 1080p or set it to 1080p in a window then set fullscreen I completly lose video. I have tried ctrl+alt+del to exit the game but the video does not come back. That is why it needs a hard reset.
Maybe it is my piece of shit PNY 8800GTX. I have had nothing but problems with it since day one and I am on my 3rd card since August. One of the DVI outputs on the card is even broken on this card.

OK. I just went and hooked my PC to a 65" Mitsu DLP 1080p. Success! The game had no problem running at 1080p. I hooked it up via both DVI-HDMI and a Duel Linked DVI cable. Both worked so the cable is fine. Also, The DVI cable lookes MUCH better than the DVI-HDMI. It had much smoother lines and curves. In my book, the theory that DVI-HDMI = DVI-DVI quality is busted!
So the problem has to rest with my monitor-TV. It is 1080p and I have played over 20 different games and Blu-ray movies at 1080p with no problems.
Finally, if I alt+tab out of the game it goes to a window so I don't have to hard reset.

Careful making such a broad conclusion about HDMI-DVI vs DVI-DVI, the cable is not the only variable.

The receiving chipset is another, and for that matter, the dvi one could be in 1080p and the hdmi one in 1080i ! Especially on a DLP tv...

Interesting to hear, anyway.

Thanks... I'll try to check that out as well by getting my hands on a DVI->HDMI cable. My options currently stand at the little DVI/HDMI converter that came with my 3870, or VGA. No DVI, just VGA as a "PC Connection".

Unfortunately 'they' are doing everything they can to rid all products of DVI for their HDCP-required HDMI replacement.

Careful on that adapter, might be specific to that card, arent they for integrating audio with the hdmi or such?

On MY DLP, both the HDMI and DVI inputs are 1080p. The DVI looked much better than the HDMI-DVI. And I am using a Monster 800 series HDMI-DVI cable which is the second best HDMI-DVI cable Monster makes.

Wonder if that second best is better then the coat hangers they couldnt be distinguished from.

Seriously, cables dont need to cost that much. I was just saying the cable isnt the only possible cause why dvi would look better.

Like on my westy the hdmi input is quite a bit worse then my dvi input, regardless of cables. The chipset is different and more borderline/error prone at 1080p.

Yes. I wouldn't be surprised if the adaptor is specific to the 3870, but since it'll be being used with that card... ;)

Killing off DVI I think is really stupid. Killing it off for DisplayPort (when that finally takes off properly) isn't necessarily a bad idea, despite the fact that I'd prefer my connections to be screwed in, so they don't run the risk of the cable falling out at an inopportune moment.

Well, we'll see what happens. If I want to play Protected Content on my HDTV, I'll use my PS3. The PC is aimed at being lower-power than my gaming rig, while still providing enough juice to be able to play games on a 40" screen if I want to. 8) I'll try out the HDMI adaptor jobbie, but I can always go VGA, provided that it doesn't give me any headaches setting it up. DVI's great because, so far for me, I've never had a problem with it with respect to setting up positioning etc. I'm hoping that HDMI will be similarly painless...

Agreed! I had a Westy before my Sharp and the HDMI inmput looked terrible. I had to use the VGA imput for my computer and I always had constants rolling static lines. That was better than what I would have had to deal with with the HDMI input. My first Westy had a DVI, but it broke and they gave me one with HDMI instead  .
