mirh, I think you might not be running the latest version of the game. The hands_fovscale cvar was locked in one of the patches. And to confirm, I just checked it myself; entering that into the console has no effect and the value stays at 0.0.

A real pity too because I got really excited when I saw your post.

That might help actually, I've been using the 32-bit build.

EDIT: RAGE is confirmed to work in 64-bit mode and not have the console commands disabled. This means that you can use
Code:
hands_fovscale #.#  (default 0.0)
to adjust the hands FOV. The regular FOV command is
Code:
g_fov # (default 80)
and also works if you want to raise your FOV.

To get RAGE working in 64 bit mode you might have to enable this tweak in either the Steam launch options or your desktop shortcut if you don't own it on Steam.
Code:
+logfile 0

In this picture I have my settings at Fov = 90 and hands_fovscale = 0.9
Image

HaYDeN if you are reading this please enable your fix in flawless widescreen to detect the 64-bit version of RAGE.

Oh that's awesome - now I might have to install again. I really liked this game.

Might even be able to get Hayden to add this to his fix again - now that he has gone 64bit.

i see you found and enjoy the solution i posted @PCGW and on the steam forums :D
(and.. the game it's only on steam actually)

btw, remember you can always transfer your savegames between 32 bit and 64 bit version at any time
in this manner you can continue your previously started 32-bit campaign in the other build
and you can obtain the achievements not obtained in the 64 bit version by reversing the procedure

and.. do you feel the 64 bit version smoother, more stutter free.. or any other improvement or worsening over the 32 bit version?
because i would like to add an indication on the pcgw on differences but unfortunately i spend half of the free weekend looking for fixes and couldn't play enough the 32 bit to compare it to the 64 bit one

Haha yeah I did find my way to PCGW for this!

I'll look into the performance difference in depth later tonight, got some errands to run today.

I used FRAPS to run a 6 minute benchmark on the game and the framerate is both higher and more consistent in 64-bit mode versus 32-bit mode.

When I was walking around Wellspring 64-bit mode was rock solid at 60 FPS but 32-bit mode dipped down to 38 FPS at one point (can't remember what happened though).

In racing mode the average FPS was about 53 FPS with the minimum being about 45 FPS and the maximum being about 55 FPS when playing in 64-bit mode. In racing mode the average FPS was about 45 FPS with the minimum being about 30 FPS and the maximum being about 56 FPS when playing in 32-bit mode.

All settings were maxed with an eyefinity resolution of 6048x1080 and V-Synch was set to "On". I usually only turn off V-Synch if the game runs so well that it just stays maxed out at 60 FPS.

The in-game benchmark tool gives 64-bit mode a score of 108 and the 32-bit mode a score of 67.

The only assessment I can make is that texture pop in/streaming is barely noticeable in 64-bit mode and it is noticeably slower in 32-bit mode. So 64-bit mode definitely improves the experience.
