We had to turn off SSL support due to google not 100% supporting SSL sites. In particular, adsense. Even though we are using double click for publishers (DFP) with the new GPT asynchronous rendering which supports SSL, it's limited to ads we directly sell. As a community site that runs volunteer efforts, every dollar is important. There are still performance tweaks in the works (such as switching back to phpBB3) and other improvements.

mhmm, did SSL cause higher taffic or bigger server load? (just me wondering, heard ppl discuss about that once)
