I tried the 1360x768 on the GoG-version of the game my 1366x768 laptop and the exe runs, but upon selecting the 1024x768 option which is supposed to give me widescreen, the screen simply goes black.
Only the mouse cursor is rendered (it can be moved throughout the whole 1360x768 area of blackness ...
