I've actually had the same problem. I have a different brand of adapter, but it seems to be the same type. (Mine's an XFX.) Sometimes, it would recognize my monitor, but there would be issues. I wouldn't be able to change the resolution to anything higher than 1024x768, it would act like the monitor...
