Hmm yes, now that you mention it.. my settings were off.
Here's a shot with the settings I got from the GTA III guide (fov 10, stretch 1.6). A bit wider, though perhaps not optimal yet:

Contrary to what is being said in the GTA III thread, this game supports widescreen natively. I'm playing it at 1920x1200x32, and have ticked the "Wide Screen" option in the display setup.
