Actually, Sam & Max Hit the Road was designed to run in DOS at 320x200, as were most DOS games. This resolution has a ratio of 16:10, much like your average widescreen monitor.
Good remark, i'm also enjoying a lot those 320x200 oldies on a giant 16:10 20" monitor, emulated games and MS DOS ...

In my memories the "letterbox" option added black bars above and below the picture to make it more "movie-like", and the game was pre-configured that way (with the scanlines effect, too). Cant help you furhter, i quit this game a long time ago. There's nothing on Eve Online forums ?

I've been in Eve beta only so my merories are a bit dated, but i recall there was a "letterbox" option in the graphics option panel, you may try to check / uncheck things in this area... ?

I'll have to check it out once i can get my TA CDs back, as you can run the game (limited to multi only) without the CDs, and in this case it does not even run the FMV intro (goes straight to title page)... In my memories the intro is like the single/multiplayer menus, run at a fixed resolution ...
