I just picked this up on the Steam Summer Sale for $4.99 and was able to use the OP's solution to get Darksiders running at 6048x1080... changed it to Read Only and have been gaming happily ever since... Thanks!

Do that, and then just hit the " ~ " or tilde key... that is the default bind, no need to change it and it definitely won't crash the game ...

i have monster cable component cable's for my xbox 180 and in games i don't notice the vertical lines, but when i pop in a dvd i sure do.
like vertical "pinkish" lines or bars... not very noticeable but they are there ...
