Actually with a bit more experimentation, it seems that everything works fine as long as the custom resolution has a 4:3 aspect ratio. But using some widescreen resolutions results in the screen being shifted to the right inside a smaller view window.

Thanks for the patch, but there is a major problem with it. I have a custom resolution of 1152x648 which works perfectly, but during any dialog sequence the subtitles and different replies you can choose are invisible.
Anyone else get this problem? It may be something to do with the screen ...
