I've been looking for an answer on many forums, and even looked at all the config files... I'm affraid that so far I've got the same opinion as yours... :(

On the other hand, my question is relevant as well for people who have a 4:3 screen: what if you want to have the 2 players side by side instead of one above the other ...

In Serious Sam - The Second Encounter, is there anybody who knows how to split the game vertically instead of horizontally (default) when playing 2 players split-screen :?:

It would make sense on a widescreen... and I haven't found a solution so far :(
