What can one say about Arx Fatalis? It's a 1st person RPG from way back (originally released in 2002) made by Arkane Studios (same folks who did "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic"). It was meant to be Ultima Underworld III but due to not being able to secure a license became its own game. I'm glad it's not tied to an existing franchise. It uses a skill based system as well as requiring the player to use mouse gestures to cast spells. The game is in the same vein as Morrowind/Oblivion but is much, much smaller in scale than either.

dental,

Thanks for all the great work. Can you trim down the first set of screenshots? We only need one 4:3, one 16:10 and one 16:9. There is no need to get 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. They all have the same aspect. Also, can you group them by shot? So, all the menu shots would be together, and all the gameplay together. This allows for easier comparison.

In your DR you were looking at resolution 1600x1050. Did you mean 1680x1050, or did you try 1600x1050?

Thanks,
Ib

These screenshots are definitely hor +. The game can be graded as hor +. The "stretch" listing in the rubric and MGL might just be an oversight that nobody ever corrected, until now.

In addition to Ibrin's question about 1680x1050, I'd like to know if this game has stuff like sub-screens, alternate camera angles, GUIs, or anything else other than the default first-person view that would be affected by using widescreen. Most RPGs do. Comparison screenshots for those things should be listed and documented under "singleplayer anomalies."

For the time being,
Calculated grade: B-
Potential grade: B+

Minor unresolved issues:
Is 1680x1050 supported?
Any SP anomalies?

CCE: 98%

.ini solution is a blemish

Congrats dental, great job :) One less oldie-goldie on my to-do list !
You can probably get rid of a couple things in your DR, like the 4:3/5:4 values among the tested resolutions, though ;)

Are the magic gestures affected by ws in any way ?

hi,just wanted to say that my rig is about the same specs as dental except i have 2 of his cards in SLI.
My issue is that when i run the game i have what seems like "tearing", is that cause i have 2 video cards?

the tearing is horizontal & no amount of tinkering with settings has solved that "tearing"

I just bought this game off gog.com. There it is updated to version 1.19 and widescreen resolutions are natively supported. I can't guarantee this but I would think this applies to other versions as well.

I looked it up - the 1.19 patch introduces native widescreen resolutions, but it was made specifically for GoG.com customers and is not available to retail customers. I don't know if Steam users have access to it or not.

Hi

I just bought this game. It isn't here yet.
I am wondering if it will work with TripleHead2Go at 4320x900?
Anyone tried this?

Thanks :)

Just tested TH support in the demo. The demo had graphical glitches galore, making it unplayable. Forcing VSync off fixed the glitches, but made the turning speed insane (but oddly enough the game speed itself remained normal).

Anyway, I did get some matching shots, and I can confirm that 1680x1050 is supported.
