In a recent post on the Microsoft Answers forum, Microsoft employee Daniel Moth stated, "DirectX 11.1 is part of Windows 8, just like DirectX 11 was part of Windows 7. DirectX 11 was made available for Vista .... but at this point there is no plan for DirectX 11.1 to be made available on Windows 7."

I predict driver feature set adoption stalls at DX 11.0.

Me neither, and if folks on this forum don't, then it must not be worth much...

The biggest thing is definitely the Shader Debugging features. I wouldn't be surprised to see DX11.1 become popular at least amongst developers for this reason alone, whether they ship that to end users is another concern though.

The other thing that is quite exciting is using HLSL to access Video resources, should be neat when rending BINK to textures.

Being able to bind a subrange of CBuffers seems really need for UberShaders as well.

It's definitely a nice improvement, and it's too bad that we won't see it become popular.

Gaming industry are at the mercy of consoles and all the next gen consoles will use DX 11.1 capable AMD GPU's according to the rumors. Its not unthinkable that they will use DX 11.1 features. The supposedly leaked slides regarding the Xbox 720 also suggests it:

Consoles have also gotten added 3D features, which is now supported natively through DirectX. The consoles are fighting amongst each other for added features.

There is a chance that we will see more ported games from the new consoles that are coming, which takes advantage of DX 11.1 and especially native stereoscopic 3D support. I wouldn't put it past that DX 11.1 might become more supported due to the new consoles in much larger degree then what DX 10 and 11 has been.

I hope so, because I have high hopes for Occulus rift :P
