The problem with 20/30/20 PLP layout is its weight. Total gaming pixel-count 7,936,000. You would need 3 R9 285 cards to run it maxed, because the card is not that strong. Not the ideal card for heavy beast PLP, but would work in theory.

But card works solo alright for light versions. I have lightweight 19/27/19 (total gaming pixel-count 3,801,600). Manual PLP tests of R9 285 (stock clock):
- Metro Last Light Redux 2014: can't max, unplayable FPS.
- Dragon Age Inquisition 2014: maxed with playable FPS, but game feels smoother & better unmaxed.

Extra cards are of little help for manual PLP, as it's usually achieved in windowed. Eyefinity PLP with Crossfire would make 20/30/20 a decent gaming option.

Agreed.

The R9 285 isn't powerful enough for 20/30/20 at least not on its own, and maybe not even with multiple cards due to limited VRAM, and the poor scaling with Crossfire/SLI.

I'm more interested in this as it seems to suggest the next gen Radeon 3xx series will support the feature as well.

I've had this single Titan since early 2013, and if something comes out that is more powerful AND supports my PLP setup, you bet I'm upgrading in short order.

I received Club 3D response regarding R9 285 lack of mixed rotation support. Result: no graphics card currently works in PLP, likely due to Omega driver. It is now being researched by engineers & AMD for future correction, thanks to Club 3D's good support.

I will be posting all such responses in this thread:

The one time that AMD should of leaked this announcement. Just got two 970 gtx's two weeks ago. Had a 5970 and then two 7950 sapphire flex boost cards in crossrfire. I for sure would of waited for the 390 if I knew this functionality was inbound. Multimonitor in NVidia sux. I use 2x dell 1680x1050 with dp on the outside and my u2711 2560x1440 in the middle it would of been great to do the 1680x1050's in portrait on the outside.

Kind of mad to be honest. The one time I wish something was leaked it isn't.

...SNIP...

Give it a wait first. So far support isn't there yet, even with the R9 285 (that's supposed to have support, but doesn't).
