Hey all, long time lurking nvidia surround user with a quick question for a new setup I am debating trying. Basically, I have an old 48" 1080p TV kicking around and am debating repurposing it along with a couple 32" TVs (yet to be bought) into a living room PLP setup. I have never PLPed before (currently run LLL on my desk) and have perused some posts and the wiki and just want to confirm something: can I get away with two side 720p's in portrait?

I can get them MUCH cheaper than 1080s at a local wholesaler so in the interest of cheaping out in case I dont like this setup I would much prefer them if they will do the job. I know the 32 inchers are a bit big for a 48" center but if things go as planned I will likely end up moving a 55" I also have kicking around into the center (which should line up pretty close).

Thoughts, suggestions, critiques? Thanks in advance.

Well you would have to take DPI into consideration and screen sizes, the 2x 32" 720p and 1x 55" 1080p will work better because they will have the same sizes, but there will be a slight dpi difference, but will match in size.

here have a look.:

26" = 12.7 (H) x 22.7 (W)..........288.3 (sq.in.)
27" = 13.2 (H) x 23.5 (W)..........310.2 (sq.in.)
30" = 14.7 (H) x 26.1 (W)..........383.7 (sq.in.)
32" = 15.7 (H) x 27.9 (W)..........438.0 (sq.in.)
34" = 16.7 (H) x 29.6 (W)..........494.3 (sq.in.)
37" = 18.1 (H) x 32.2 (W)..........582.8 (sq.in.)
40" = 19.6 (H) x 34.9 (W)..........684.0 (sq.in.)
42" = 20.6 (H) x 36.6 (W).........754.0 (sq.in.)
43" = 21.1 (H) x 37.5 (W)..........791.2 (sq.in.)
44" = 21.6 (H) x 38.3 (W)..........827.3 (sq.in.)
45" = 22.1 (H) x 39.2 (W)..........866.3 (sq.in.)
46" = 22.6 (H) x 40.1 (W)..........906.3 (sq.in.)
47" = 23.0 (H) x 41.0 (W)..........943.0 (sq.in.)
50" = 24.5 (H) x 43.6 (W)..........1068.2 (sq.in.)
51" = 25.0 (H) x 44.5 (W)..........1112.5 (sq.in.)
52" = 25.5 (H) x 45.3 (W)..........1155.1 (sq.in.)
53" = 26.0 (H) x 46.2 (W)..........1201.2 (sq.in.)
55" = 27.0 (H) x 47.9 (W)..........1293.3 (sq.in.)
56" = 27.5 (H) x 48.8 (W)..........1342.0 (sq.in.)
57" = 27.9 (H) x 49.7 (W)..........1386.6 (sq.in.)
60" = 29.4 (H) x 52.3 (W)..........1537.6 (sq.in.)
61" = 29.9 (H) x 53.2 (W)..........1590.7 (sq.in.)
62" = 30.4 (H) x 54.0 (W)..........1641.6 (sq.in.)
65" = 31.9 (H) x 56.7 (W)..........1808.7 (sq.in.)
70" = 34.3 (H) x 61.0 (W)..........2092.3 (sq.in.)

sgaumont,

First of all you must learn your viewable size. Measure diagonally the screen of your 48" center monitor. It is probably 47.6".

Below is your 47.6" monitor entry on PLP Gaming wiki.
http://plp-gaming.wikia.com/wiki/Large_Monitors_By_Viewable_Size#47.6_Inch_1920x1080_.2816:9.29
Under the PLP Layouts section of your entry are listed side monitors that will fit it to line up pixels in PLP.

Note the links under PLP Layouts will point to your setup, but it's in a group of related setups. So you need to scroll its page up a bit to see general details & layout screenshot.
Here are screenshots of the 2 main entries, to give you the idea. You need to decide what will work best for you, based on setup shape & notes listed for each.

PS in answer to your questions:
1. These sides listed will not line up with 55" center. That center requires different sides for px lineup.
That said, Windows 10 is reported to allow individual display scaling of multi-monitor setup, which may allow you to reuse sides with 55" (no guarantees, as this Windows 10 feature not yet tested & may look like crap)
2. The sides' resolution is being dropped because there is no 1280x720 nor 1600x900 for purchase, of the physical size you need to line up pixels. But if you find some rare side monitor with the right dimensions & same low resolution, yes it would work the same.
