Hmmm... I still have the game lying about somewhere. Ok, not just somewhere, but with the rest of my neatly sorted games ;). I do recall playing it in widescreen. Might install it later just to check it out. 'Tis a great game :)

I have it too, on my messy game shelf, somewhere - but instead of looking for the cd I just downloaded the demo, here's what I found :

-no easy-to-edit config file or reg key.
-widescreen support : native, stretch.
-I couldn't get the game to run at any 16:9 res so far.
-high 4:3 resolutions work no problem, including 2048x1536 and 1920x1440.
-max 16:10 res seems smaller, maybe 1680x1050, still testing. (Edit: 1920x1200 actually.)

So bonz, the best you can do is probably to create custom res's such as 1440x1080 (4:3) or 1680x1050 (16:10) - with 16-bit colors.

Screenies were a pain to take, so I'll probably post some later ;)

Edit: comparison screenshots

Screenshots taken using the demo. I may write a Detailed Report of the full game someday.

Widescreen support is native (stretch), but limited to 16:10.
16:9 and 15:9 resolutions caused the demo to crash.

4:3 and 16:10 resolutions can go as high as 2048x1536 and 1920x1200 respectively.

1024x768 (4:3), race start

1280x800 (16:10), race start

1024x768 (4:3), car selection screen

1280x800 (16:10), car selection screen

Well I tried. But the game tells me: "No disc inserted." Heh... not compatible with my dvd drive I guess.
And there don't seem to be any decent patches out either (yeah, there's 1.1, but I hate and despise FilePlanet for their very existance on this planet), so I guess that's the end of it for me :(

Here are the available patches:
0916
http://www.mediafire.com/?ttiy5z1vsdc
1207
http://www.mediafire.com/?zznglq5tr12
This one disables the CD check too.
-no easy-to-edit config file or reg key.

There are registry entries for the resolution here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAcclaimRe-Volt1.0
ScreenHeight
and
ScreenWidth

I tried changing them, but unsupported resolutions reset it to 1280*1024 in the game.
-high 4:3 resolutions work no problem, including 2048x1536 and 1920x1440.
-max 16:10 res seems smaller, maybe 1680x1050, still testing. (Edit: 1920x1200 actually.)

Did all those resolutions actually show up in the game's options menu?
Because for such high ones don't. :/

And, yes, I guess a high 16:10 resolution with a little squeezing would be the best compromise (better than a stretched 4:3 resolution, I guess).

My full version of the game comes from a magazine I think and requires no cd to play iirc, so I suppose that patch is legit. (Updates that simply removed cd checks... Those were the days...)

bonz, you're right about the registry of course. I should've taken the time to perform a real search... Before posting I had just done a quick manual search in "usual" places while in Vista64 the path is :
HKLMSOFTWAREWow6432NodeAcclaimRe-Volt

All the resolutions I tested show up in-game. Even those that didn't work ! So maybe they "fixed" that in the retail game. And of course, I'm using a 30" panel (2560x1600) with lots of custom res's.

Yes, they are.
I prefer the second one, as it adds EAX support.
I use a 3rd party tool to reinstate the CD music, which has been removed with the no-cd feature.

Strange, they don't seem to show up for me.
I think I have to look further into it and might do a clean re-install and check before patching.
