Chrome SpecForce is a first-person shooter video game by Techland, released in 2005 by TopWare Interactive. It is a standalone mission pack to the 2003 computer game Chrome.

Chrome SpecForce is a strike force unit of the Federal Expeditionary Corps (FEC). They are tasked with maintaining the Federation's stability and keeping order. They are used for missions such as high-profile assassination, espionage, infiltration, and sabotage of enemy territory. The protagonist of the game is Logan, a member of SpecForce. The main goal of the game is to fight a terrorist faction on a planet called Estrella. Logan is later stuck in the midst of a large conflict after his mission escalates to galactic proportions. The game threw an error that said the game must be played on a valid version of Windows (NT, 2000, XP). I am using a valid genuine version of Windows 7 64-bit. A no-cd exe (which I detest using) got around this problem.

The comment will remain for others who have the same error for me to help them out.

Ah, I just noticed you played the Steam version. Mine is the box retail, that's probably the difference. Steam probably got an update to allow Windows 7. I'll update the DR to reflect this.

I have updated the report to cover the Chrome HD Fix.

This still doesn't resolve issues with aspect ratios wider than regular widescreen since there is no FOV option.

The link for the fix is dead and even the links on the author's blog are dead. Does anyone have it ?

Thanks for the copy of the downloads (turns out I didn't keep this myself). I have attached the fixes to the reports for these games.

Yes it works - any chance you found the Hex code to change the FOV? - its still to narrow.

PS. It works also on Sniper Art of Victory :onethumb:

I added multiplier for FOV values.
You can use Cheat Engine table to test values and then make dll patch at addresses 0029ED46; 0029ED4A.
F1;F2;F3;F4 - keys to manipulate FOV values (will work only with CE table)

UPDATE: This doesn't fix the FOV in cut-scenes. Use unofficial patch below which includes jackfuste's updated ChromeEngine.dll (FOV is changed from ver- to hor+) and more options to change individual FOV settings used during gameplay.

The same FOV fix method I used for the original Chrome works for this too. You need to edit the player camera class found in the code.pak archive.

4:3 - default 82
Image

16:9 - default 82
Image

16:9 - custom 97
Image

I have made some custom settings using the FOV calculator on this site for 16:10, 16:9, 21:9 and 3x1. I don't have an ultra widescreen monitor or triple monitor setup to test them all. If you don't like them, read the included README or the instructions below to make your own.

- Select the FOV you want and rename the file to CameraPlayer.class
- Go to game install directory and open code.pak archive with WinRar or 7-Zip
- Drop the file inside the code.pak archive to replace the existing file

NOTES:
- I made a mistake and have named the files by the third person perspective values, the first person perspective values are larger by 22.

Code:

Making your own FOV settings
--------------------------------------
- Go to game install directory and open code.pak with WinRar or 7-Zip
- Extract CameraPlayer.class file
- Open CameraPlayer.class file using dirtyJOE(Java editor) and in the "constant pool" tab find and replace the following values:
-> 82 - first person perspective
-> 60 - third person perspective
-> 75 - vehicles, sniper, binoculars...
- Drop the file inside the code.pak archive to replace the existing file

Java class editor
