Read Full Detailed Report - Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

The Force Unleashed is a third-person action game in which the player's character's weapons are the Force and a lightsaber. Developers treated the main character's lightsaber like another Force power, and wanted to ensure "something visceral and cool" happened with each button-push. The game has a combo system for stringing lightsaber attacks and for combining lightsaber attacks with Force powers. Experience points earned by killing enemies and finding artifacts can be used to increase Starkiller's powers and traits.
The gameplay is intended to be easy to learn; the development team included "horrible" gamers to help ensure the game's accessibility. Players can casually run and gun through the game, but the game rewards those who take a stealthy, more tactical approach.
The game includes enemies that are easy to overcome; game difficulty arises from presenting these enemies in large numbers that can wear down the player's character. Additionally, enemies learn from the player's character's attacks; using the same attack on different characters can sometimes lead to the player's character doing less damage.

==Supported Resolutions==

2560x1600 works ok, however it is not natively supported so you will have to edit Config.xml. See Surround section below for details.

==Cutscenes==

You're right, the FMVs always play full screen so they're deformed in all ARs but 16:9.

==Surround Gaming Support==

Edit required.
In Notepad, open Config.xml which can be found in
(XP) C:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsApplication DataAspyrStar Wars The Force Unleashed
(Win7) C:UsersAppDataLocalAspyrStar Wars The Force Unleashed

Edit the VideoWidth and VideoHeight values, for instance :
Code:
   <s id="VideoWidth">5040</s>
      <s id="VideoHeight">1050</s>

Gameplay : Hor+
HUD : scales correctly, centered !
FMVs : stretch
Real-time cutscenes : Vert-

5040x1050

Seems very strange that the HUD/minimap would be squashed in 16:10 but not stretched in TH.

Also, are there any 2D screens in the game, other than the main menu?

Grade: B

HUD squashing and FMV squashing are blemishes.

CCE: 100%

Just a skill upgrade menu which looks and behaves the same as the options menu.

Would you mind providing screenshots of that? This sort of thing should be filed under "SP anomalies."

Wow that is awesome. Centered HUD and correct FOV on TH! Real shame about the cutscenes though, there's quite a few of those.. don't understand why developers don't put in code to letterbox the movies more often, nobody wants to watch stretched or zoomed in crap :(.

Played this game on my 360.. was a lot of fun.. wonder if PC version still has the same "feature" where your targeting is based off where the character is pointing instead of the camera? That was a huge annoyance.

Played on the 360 as well. Will have to pick up on PC with the TH/EF support.

It's still like that. There weren't any improvements made to the game for the PC version of the Ultimate Sith Edition in general. It's a very bare bones port. The framerate is capped at 30fps, there are no adjustable graphics settings apart from resolution and a single "high detail" setting, there's no mouse support for menus, and the load times are terrible.

The decent TH support is rather surprising, but I'm guessing that's just a happy coincidence based on the game's existing FOV implementation. I strongly doubt they went out of their way to support TH based on how underwhelming the rest of the port was.

Still, it's not a bad game, and it's the only decent Star Wars game we've had in a long time (well apart from the Lego Star Wars games, which are brilliant, but sort of in a category of their own). It's just a shame that even forgetting the PC port for the moment, they didn't take the opportunity to address some of the general complaints with the game in the Ultimate Sith Edition.
