Read Full Detailed Report - Men of War

Men of War is a real-time strategy video game and the sequel of the 2004 Real time tactics game Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, developed in partnership with Best Way by Digitalmindsoft and published by 1C Company, 505 Games and Aspyr Media. Like the game's predecessor, the single player campaign takes place during World War II and features battles set in Europe and Russia and the new locations Greece and North Africa, across three different campaigns for the Allies, Germans and Soviets.

Note:

This is my very first Detailed Report, and I probably forgot to do something. Please tell me what I could add/change to make it a better report. :)

Overall a fine report.
A couple of pointers for clarity...
- For the screen change section, all the text that's needed is hor+ with screenshots from ingame/menus.
- Because the cutscenes appear to be handled differently, it would be worth giving these their own section, rather than combining them with the above.
- Try and group the screenshots by their location in the game, rather than by AR as they are currently. e.g. menu - 4:3, 16:10, 16:9 .... ingame - 4:3, 16:10, 16:9 .
This makes them easier to compare.
- You do not need to provide a screenshot from every resolution, just one from each aspect ratio is sufficient. We believe you that they're supported :D
- If you have successfully run the game in multiplayer, images of the different ARs to show this would be great.

Nice work

In the future, could you group multiple shots of the same thing together? Rather than this:

4:3 game
4:3 menu
4:3 FMV
16:9 game
16:9 menu
16:9 FMV
16:10 game
16:10 menu
16:10 FMV

It makes things much easier for me (and other readers) if you do this:

4:3 game
16:9 game
16:10 game
4:3 menu
16:9 menu
16:10 menu
4:3 FMV
16:9 FMV
16:10 FMV

And yeah, you don't need to provide a screenshot at every single resolution. If you just say "I tested resolutions," we'll believe you.

Also, does the game have any ingame rendered cut-scenes, or are they all FMVs? And if it has ingame rendered cut-scenes, can you provide comparison shots?

One thing to note, the FMVs are anamorphic in 16:10, but windowboxed in 16:9. Ideally, they should be anamorphic in 16:9 too, but in the past this issue was considered negligible and was not held against the game's grading.

Anyway, nice work. All we need is info on ingame rendered cut-scenes, and I think this game is certifiable.

Thank you both for the feedback.

Yes, there are in-game cut-scenes, and I've added them in their own group.

Also changed the layout of the report to your suggestion.

The cut-scenes are hor +, but also have smaller black bars, making them vert + too.

So, this game is certified.

Great stuff, thanks for the DR :D I tried the demo (get it here folks) and had tremendous fun.

Men Of War supports TripleHead natively, gameplay is Hor+ and the UI scales correctly (although it spans across the entire display). I'll probably buy the game sooner or later, so I'll add a proper Surround section to the DR then.

2560x800 (aka "not-quite-TripleHead but you get the idea")

FYI: This game is impossible to beat on Medium or even Hard.
