Read Full Detailed Report - DiRT

Colin McRae: DiRT is the latest in a series of McRae titled rally simulations. However unlike previous games it includes other types of on and off road racing as well as rallying. It has a high degree of realism and a high PC specification (8800 card recommended). It also features a quasi-multiplayer mode which allows you to compete on your own instance of a track and compare your times online. The game was produced by Codemasters and was released in July 2007.

==Cut-scenes==

I'd put this replay stretching under "singleplayer anomalies."

==Grading==

Calculated grade: C+
Potential grade: B+

Major unresolved issues:
Are 1280x720 or 1920x1080 supported?

Minor unresolved issues:
Are 1280x800 and 1440x900 supported?

Summary of widescreen-related flaws:
Stretched replays

Cranky's coverage estimate: 88.5%

I didn't get stretched replays in the demo using TripleHead and they would show up really bad in TH ...

Here are a couple of replay shots in TH from the demo ... they don't look stretched to me ...

It's very odd that they should be different in the full game ...
Sorry I don't have the full game to check it out further but I thought it worth mentioning.

Oh, OK. I will run the replays again and check my settings. Maybe I stuffed it up somewhere......

Just off the top of my head, I think in DiRT you set both the resolution and aspect. I did not use it on TH2G which would be really obvious and never really watch the replays anyway so maybe when I was doing the screenshots for the DR I forgot to change the aspect? It doesn't look badly stretched so I didn't notice in game.
I'll have a look

Yep, I think I mucked up (to use the polite version) when I took the replay screenshots. I never watch them anyway so didn't think anything of it. Will take a couple tonight and get it regraded :oops:
Sorry for that and thanks guys for spotting my mistake
Cheers

Sorry guys, I must have cahnged the resolution but NOT the aspect ratio when I was taking the screen shots :oops:
Thanks heaps for the feedback, the DR has been correctly edited now.
So a new grading from Cranky and hopefully we have another certified game 8)
And it is a great fun game, although I am rubbish and find the rallying beyond my skills! Thankfully for us Navigator types (lack of hand eye co-ordination) the other modes are included and are a lot easier :D
