Read Full Detailed Report - Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4, known in Japan as Biohazard 4, is a survival horror third-person shooter video game developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published by multiple publishers, including Capcom, Ubisoft, Nintendo Australia, Red Ant Enterprises and THQ Asia Pacific.

First hinted at in early December 1999, Resident Evil 4 underwent a long development time during which four proposed versions of the game were discarded. Initially developed for the PlayStation 2, the first attempt was directed by Hideki Kamiya after producer Shinji Mikami requested him to create a new entry in the Resident Evil series. Nevertheless, it was decided to start development over again.

Resident Evil 4 has garnered universal critical acclaim, averaging a score of 96 on Metacritic. It has received stellar reviews from various video game magazines and websites. The game was considered by most critics as a top contender for 2005's Game of the Year, and was seen as a successful crossover hit; the new gameplay alterations and immersive style appealed to many not previously familiar with the series.

== Screen change ==

This behavior is called "anamorphic."

== Aspect ratio support ==

Since you couldn't test 16:9 resolutions, note that here. You don't yet know if it's correct or not.

==Grading==

Calculated grade: C+
Potential grade: Certified

Major unresolved issues:
Are 1280x720 or 1920x1080 supported?
If so, how does 16:9 compare with 16:10?
Is 1280x768 supported?
Are 1280x800 and 1440x900 supported?

Minor unresolved issues:
None

Cranky's coverage estimate: 77.5%

16:9 just removes the black bars at the top and bottom which are present in 16:10 and 4:3

How do you know this? You didn't confirm that any 16:9 resolutions work.

Got this today... it's funny that a port so nerfed in so many areas (it doesn't even support a mouse, requires a gamepad) runs in widescreen SO well.

The game does not support 16:9 resolutions. I only get 1280x800 and 1680x1050. Kinda stupid since the game/cutscenes are done in 16:9.

Bye bye certification. But if there's an alternate solution for 16:9 res's, the grade could go up.

I think the game actually runs in 16:9 doesn't it? In 1680x1050 I get thin bars on top and bottom I am 99% sure... I'll check it later.

Yes, the viewing area is 16:9. That's already been established. It's 16:9 *resolutions* that are not supported, which is a bad thing for HDTV users.

I was just meaning it's odd to have the game display in 16:9 and not support the resolution.
