Read Full Detailed Report - Doom II

Doom II is the second game in the series, and it uses the same engine as the original. It introduced new monsters, a new weapon, and 32 new levels. It is also playable in GZDoom, and most of the information of Doom applies here too.

There is one new bug, though. Unlike Doom, not all of the 2D screens here are pillarboxed; some are stretched. Here is the "a good cast is worth repeating" screen, which is stretched.

Final Doom:

Final Doom is a spinoff of Doom 2. It has the same weapons and monsters as Doom 2, but it has 64 fiendishly difficult levels. It is playable in GZDoom, and has the same flaw that Doom 2 does (not pictured)

Heretic:

Heretic is a fantasy-themed shooter in the style of Doom. It uses the Doom engine, and it is playable in GZDoom. I could not find any stretched 2D screens, or any other flaws.

Hexen:

Hexen is a game that takes place in the Heretic universe, and takes place after the events of Heretic (it is not Heretic II; that game would come out years later). It is playable in GZDoom, but it has an interesting bug. This is the first game using the Doom engine where some of the weapons are oriented to the side instead of the center. This can produce strange effects for these weapons, like a disembodied floating arm, or a swinging axe coming out of nowhere.

Update: I just tested the untested resolutions on my 24" monitor, and all of them worked. Doom and Heretic get upgraded to certification. Doom II, Final Doom, and Hexen get B+'s.

It does instant crash when eyefinity resolutions like 5760x1080 or 6048x1080 are used.
