I'm trying to run SOFII at a resolution of 1920x1200. I have done what you have mentioned, but it doesn't seem to be working. When I go into the game the resolution is still at 640x480 and after exiting the game the value of r_mode has been changed to 3.

Can your monitor handle 1920x1200? And if it does, try searching for and deleting all instances of "customheight" and "customwidth" and then adding the lines manually to the bottom.

My monitor supports a resolution of 1920x1200. It's a Dell 2405FPW. I have deleted all instances of "customheight" and "customwidth"and added them to the bottom of the file which didn't work. Do I need to change "customaspect" and "fullscreen"? I read somewhere that setting "customaspect" to 3 makes the game run at 16:10. I'm not sure if that works for SOFII. Also, I only play multiplayer, do I still need to change the single player config file.

I've tried fiddling with the "customaspect" var in Call of Duty, another Quake 3-engine game, and I couldn't find any effect it had whatsoever. In Doom 3 and Quake 4, setting it to "1" makes the FOV aspect ratio 16:9 and "2" makes it 16:10, but that doesn't have anything to do with the resolution. And the fullscreen variable changes whether the game runs in fullscreen or windowed mode. It has nothing to do with widescreen. Only DVDs at Walmart use the word "Fullscreen" to describe aspect ratio.

Try this. When you're in a game, bring down the console and type "seta r_mode -1".

I tried typing "seta r_mode -1" in the console. I did a vid_restart and then typed in "r_mode" and it has changed back to 3. It says the valid range is 3-10.

Just as an experiment, try setting the custom resolution to 1024x768, and see if it still refuses to let you use r_mode -1.

Well, that narrows down the problem. Your problem doesn't specifically have to do with 1920x1200 resolution, but for some reason, the game isn't letting you use r_mode -1 in general.

Do you have the SoF2 Gold Edition, or do you have the Gold Edition patch installed, or just plain SoF2 without any patches installed?

In the meantime, try seeing if you can get a custom resolution to work in the singleplayer mode.

I have SoF2 Gold Edition, and the SoF2 1.03 Gold Edition patch is installed.
