Quake II (KMQuake2 engine)
|
Quake II is a shooter from id Software and Activision, and the follow-up to. Unrelated to Quake plotwise, you play as a nameless space marine sent on an assault to the alien planet Stroggos, only to be shot down and separated from your squad. You must carry out the assault alone and destroy the Stroggos leader, therefore plunging Stroggos into a civil war in which Earth doesn't get hurt. Because Quake II is now open source, several user-made versions of Quake II have been released. KMQuake2 is by far the best Quake II engine we have tested.KMQuake2 can be downloaded here:http://kmq2.quakedev.com/If you have the Id Super Pack, please read that article for notes on how to make it work with KMQuake2.KMQuake2's developer also offers a "Quake2 Unofficial v3.23 Patch," available from the same site, which offers a minimal set of enhancements and fixes, including widescreen support. Because KMQuake2 is a superset of this patch, and offers lots of exclusive features (especially OGG music support which Steam users will absolutely want to have), we haven't tested or certified this patch, but it remains a lightweight alternative to KMQuake2. The default crosshair is misaligned in KMQuake2 0.20, and is pretty much useless. This is not related to widescreen, and can be fixed by changing the crosshair, which I strongly advise you do. The crosshair is in Options->Screen. Crosshairs 4 through 11 work just fine, but the first three are broken. |
