Solution

The widescreen support is native. The game detects every available resolution in Windows, including custom resolutions. Of note, there is an option for either "wide" or "normal" in the game. Setting it to wide creates an artificially wide FOV, and squishes the character (making them appear extremely thin). Leave this option set to normal, even for widescreen displays.

Nothing that impacts gameplay. The only issue is some interesting clipping on the character selection screen.
The HUD does not scretch, and is fully customizable in the game.
