Alice: Madness Returns

Eleven years after American McGee's Alice, the equally deranged and determined girl returns to Wonderlands. Things have changed for the worse and Alice must find a way to cleanse the imaginary realm from all corruption. The gameplay combines platform run'n'jumping, theatrical combat and various minigames.

Solution

Native support.
(Flawlessws doesn't remove the letterboxing in widescreen, it's only useful for Multi-monitor.)

Eyefinity / Surround Specific Solution

Use HaYDeN's Flawless Widescreen to fix the aspect and FOV.
Be aware that you first need a modified game .exe for the tool to work.
Modifying the game resolution from flawlessws doesn't work for me, so here's a detailed step-by-step guide:

  1. Switch to a single-screen resolution.
  2. Launch the game and select your usual multi-monitor resolution from the Configuration menu.
  3. Upon confirmation the display will be cut-off and distorted; you must first select Yes (right + Enter) in the dialog box then navigate to the other Confirm button at the bottom (up + up + Enter). Exit the game.
  4. Set your desktop back to your favorite multi-mon resolution.
  5. Run flawlessws. Make sure the following boxes are ticked:
  6. Enabled
    FOV Fixes
    Aspect Fix

  7. Run the game.

If you ever want to play on a single screen again, first change the resolution from the in-game Configuration menu, exit Alice MR and close flawlessws, then change your desktop res and run the game.

The default fixed FOV is for TripleWide; classic TripleHead will be Vert+ compared to TripleWide unless FOV Boost is set to -15.

3D Solution

Single player anomalies

Multi-mon:

  • Sometimes the fix is not immediately active during/after some cut-scenes, just proceed a bit further into the game and it should kick in enventually.
  • A few playable sequences (Chapter 3 scrolls) are always Vert- and FOV Boost is inactive, so playing at a single-screen resolution may be needed to complete them.

Multiplayer anomalies

No MP.
